The changing seasons are full of promise and excitement. Without a doubt, fall is a time of year redolent of crisp autumnal leaves, preparing for the future, and starting fresh.
It is also a time to get back in touch with nature, and what better way to do that than to enjoy these cozy drinks from an insulated carafe, enjoyed in your in-ground swim spa or hot tub?
Whether you want to enjoy them solo or with a friend or two, you can easily whip them up to serve them in your 4-person hot tub this fall.
Mull It Over
There are few things as delightful as warm apple juice or cider to chase away the chill, and the preparations are easy, too! For that “from scratch” taste, start with steaming or slow-cooking apples until they are plump and juicy, adding classic spices like cinnamon and clove as you go.
Once they reach peak softness, strain them into a pitcher and stir in any other flavors, like a dash of vanilla or honey. Let it sit in the fridge if you want a cool drink that contrasts with the heat of your spa, or bring it to a boil and sip gently if you want full-body warmth that lingers throughout the rest of the day.
Hot Chocolate!
It goes without saying that this pre-winter treat is a classic for relaxing and resisting the bite of the season. The best approach for homemade hot chocolate is to use dark chocolate that has a low melting point, and slowly soften it in a copper pan suspended over another pan filled with boiling water.
Once it is soft, add in any other ingredients you’d like to flavor it with, such as a bit of sugar, some freshly squeezed cherry juice, or for an exciting treat, a hint of chili pepper.
In another pan, let your milk (or non-dairy substitute) reach almost boiling, so that it simmers in the pot, stirring frequently to prevent clotting or lumping. Once both are satisfactorily heated, mix the two together in your thermos, add marshmallows or whipped cream on top, and take outside immediately to enjoy!
Coffee or Tea
Although this is one of the simple cozy drinks that most of us enjoy daily, it becomes something magnificent and unique when taken into the spa. For coffees, try to select a powerful, dark brew, like Colombian. A French press can help you make it extra strong without the acrid bitterness of overdone coffee.
Now all that is left is to doctor it up with your favorite coffee syrups and creamers, a spoonful of natural cane sugar, and a generous topping of heavy whipped cream beaten almost to a butter-like consistency, to give a delightful juxtaposition of cold and hot as you drink it.
For teas, similar steps apply, similar to making a strong Chai, but the choice of tea leaf and additional flavorings are more robust. Go with a black tea for hearty fortitude, or a lighter green tea with some chamomile if you just want to relax and unwind.
